Open for the Holidays 2026–2027: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s at Eigikutei

by | 11/7/2026 | News

The holiday season arrives in Los Angeles with a familiar question: who is open? At Eigikutei, the answer is the one we give all year. The restaurant closes only on Mondays, so Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day all fall on ordinary days of service, with lunch and dinner served at our regular hours.

For families gathering from across the city, for visitors spending the holidays downtown, and for anyone who would rather leave the cooking to someone else, our Little Tokyo dining room offers a calm alternative to the season’s crowds: kimono-clad servers, a seasonal kaiseki course, and the unhurried rhythm of the omakase counter.

Holiday Hours: November 2026 – January 2027

A Holiday Table in Little Tokyo

Kaiseki, the traditional Japanese multi-course meal, rests on three ideas: seasonal ingredients, restrained seasoning, and omotenashi, the spirit of hospitality. Each course arrives in its own time, prepared to draw out umami rather than mask it, and served with the care that has defined our family kitchen for more than sixty years.

Winter is the season of the hot pot. Thin slices of USDA Prime or A5 Miyazaki Wagyu are swirled through a simmering broth for shabu-shabu, which closes with zosui, a rice porridge cooked in what remains in the pot, or simmered in a sweet-savory broth for sukiyaki. At the counter, our sushi chefs prepare the omakase sushi kaiseki piece by piece in front of each guest, with fish flown in from Japan alongside the day’s seasonal catch. A plant-based kaiseki serves vegan guests and mixed tables, and a list of Junmai, Ginjo, and Daiginjo sake, along with wines chosen for Japanese cuisine, accompanies any course.

In Japan, the first days of the new year are for sharing a meal with family. We are glad to set that table in Los Angeles on January 1, whether for two at the counter or for a group of up to sixteen.

Eigikutei Gift Cards: A Gift for the Table

If someone on your list loves Japanese food, an Eigikutei gift card gives them an evening here, on their own schedule. Gift cards are sold online at eigikutei.com/giftcard and delivered by email, so there is nothing to mail and no trip to the restaurant: choose a preset amount of $100, $250, $500, or $1,000, or enter an amount of your own, add a personal message, and send it right away or schedule it to arrive on a date you choose, Christmas morning included. The cards never expire, can be reloaded, and can be used toward any menu, from an omakase dinner at the counter to a shabu-shabu dinner for the whole family.

From all of us at Eigikutei, thank you for another year at our table. We look forward to welcoming you this season.
